01Information We Collect
Identity & verification. Your name, phone number, email address, profile photo, and date of birth. Both your phone and email are verified with a one-time code before your account is active.
Location & presence. When you turn on People Nearby, we use your approximate location to show you who and what's around — and to show you to others, only while it's switched on.
WYA Tap connections. When you tap phones with someone, we record that a connection happened. The tap itself works over Bluetooth between the two phones directly — it doesn't use GPS.
Voice & translation. If you use WYA Voice, your recorded audio is sent to our own speech-recognition and translation systems to produce text, then discarded — we don't keep the audio file. The resulting text is stored the same way a typed message is.
Messages. Chats with your Circle connections, stored so the conversation is there when you come back to it.
Device & notifications. A push-notification token tied to your device, so we can notify you about messages, taps, and connection requests.
02How We Collect It
- Directly from you — when you sign up, complete your profile, or send a message.
- Automatically from your device — location, only while People Nearby is on and only with your permission; notification token, once you allow notifications.
- From other members — if someone taps you, sends you a connection request, or messages you, we process that as part of running the feature.
03How We Use It, And How Long We Keep It
| Data | Used For | Kept Until |
|---|---|---|
| Account & verification info | Signing you in, keeping one account per person | Account deletion, plus a short window to prevent immediate re-registration by banned users |
| Location / presence | People Nearby, Events & Places | Not stored once People Nearby is switched off; recent presence expires automatically |
| WYA Tap records | Confirming a connection so both sides land in Circle | Duration of the connection, or until either side removes it |
| Voice audio | Producing a translated/transcribed message | Never stored — discarded immediately after transcription |
| Messages | Showing your conversation history | Until you or the other person deletes the conversation, or the account is deleted |
| Device / push token | Sending you notifications | Until you log out, uninstall, or disable notifications |
04Who We Share It With
We don't sell your data, and we don't hand it to advertisers. A small number of infrastructure providers process it on our behalf, strictly to run the service:
- Our hosting and database providers, to run the app and store your data securely.
- Our SMS provider, to deliver the one-time code when you verify your phone number.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with a Google account.
- Our push-notification provider, to deliver notifications to your device.
- Speech-to-text and translation for WYA Voice run on infrastructure we operate ourselves — your voice isn't sent to a third-party AI vendor.
We'll disclose information beyond this if required by law, or to protect the safety of our members.
05Location & Visibility Controls
People Nearby is opt-in — off by default, and you can switch it off again at any time, instantly. Being visible to others only happens while it's on. WYA Tap doesn't use GPS at all, so it can't be used to locate you; it only connects two phones that are already physically near each other.
06Security
Your data is stored on access-controlled infrastructure, encrypted in transit between your device and our servers. Verification codes expire quickly and can't be reused. Like any service, we can't guarantee perfect security, but we design for it as a default, not an afterthought.
07Your Rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data, restrict how it's processed, or withdraw consent, at any time. Most of this is available directly in the app under account settings; anything else, reach out and we'll respond within 30 days.
08Children's Safety
WYA is strictly 18+. We do not knowingly allow minors on the platform, and accounts found to belong to a minor are removed. Any exploitation or endangerment of a child is reported to the appropriate authorities immediately — see our Community Guidelines.
09Changes To This Policy
If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll notify you in the app before it takes effect, not just quietly update this page.
